Australian Twenty20 squad member Ben Cutting could be in doubt for the series against South Africa after picking up an injury in Queensland’s Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania.
Cutting grabbed four wickets on Friday as the Bulls dismissed the Tigers for a first-innings total of 350, but failed to complete his 26th over.
The 27-year-old left the Bellerive ground with what appeared to be a hamstring problem after removing the Tigers’ Xavier Doherty (32).
Cutting played in the recent 3-0 T20 sweep of England at home and was named in the squad to take on the Proteas in three games from March 9.
Bulls medical staff were still assessing the injury, which came after the paceman had taken 4-54.
Queensland were 1-42 in their first innings at tea on day two on a wicket continuing to play slowly.
They had lost the wicket of Luke Pomersbach (12) at 1-30, caught behind off the bowling of Sam Rainbird (1-12).
Tasmania resumed at 5-244 and a collapse beckoned when they lost Ben Dunk (47) and Ben Hilfenhaus (16) to be 7-267.
But, led by gloveman Tim Paine (39), the Tigers’ tail wagged to take them to a competitive total.
No.10 Rainbird (26) smashed consecutive sixes off spinner Cameron Boyce (1-88) before he tried once too often to go over the rope and was caught to end the innings.
Alister McDermott bagged 3-58 and Luke Feldman 2-69 for the Bulls.
Both sides need outright victory to stay in touch with the competition leaders.
