A spectacular start to the summer helped Queensland fast bowler Ben Cutting be crowned the Bulls’ player of 2011-12 despite only playing half of the season.
Cutting was sidelined for more than two months with a groin injury and then also missed the Bulls’ Sheffield Shield final triumph, but was their leading wicket-taker to claim the Ian Healy Trophy.
He snared 36 victims at an average of 18.75 and also scored 322 runs at 29.29, including three half-centuries.
The 25-year-old’s start to 2011-12 had him on the brink of Test selection, being named 12th man for the first Test against New Zealand before succumbing to his groin injury.
Cutting was also prominent in the one-day side, finishing as Queensland’s second leading-wicket-taker with 10 scalps from six Ryobi Cup games.
He beat wicketkeeper Chris Hartley to the Healy Trophy with the gloveman named the Shield player of the year as well as gaining the Bulls’ players’ player award.
Batsman Nathan Reardon was named the best one-day player while rising paceman Alister McDermott was the Brisbane Heat’s most valuable player.
