It may wind up costing plenty in lost wedding deposits but Peter Forrest is sure his fiancee Rachel is happier than anyone about his international cricket success.
Forrest’s remarkable rise from trying to secure his role with new state Queensland after a winter move from NSW to Australia batsman continued on Friday with a maiden one-day international hundred in Hobart.
It means the 26-year-old has now made two 50s and a century in his four appearances for Australia, prompting talk he could receive a call-up for April’s three-Test tour of the West Indies.
With the couple set to tie the knot on April 14, a Test call-up would mean putting the nuptials on hold but Forrest says his partner is the one pushing for him to put cricket first.
“It keeps coming back to this,” Forrest said when asked about his wedding plans on Saturday.
“It’s made out it’s my decision and I’m the one who said we’re going to the West Indies but she was the one who straightaway said ‘if cricket ever gets in the way then no dramas, we’ll call it off’.
“I’m very lucky that I’ve got a very easy-going missus.”
With the one-day series in the Caribbean finishing on March 30, no Tests would mean he and Rachel could get married as planned and Forrest said there’d been no plans made on the chance he gets a Test nod.
“I think there’s probably a few deposits we won’t get back,” he said.
“I still might not be going yet so we’ll have to wait and see.
“There’s no contingency plan.”
