Collapsing Black Caps on verge of defeat

A New Zealand batting collapse has left the West Indies requiring just 102 runs in their second innings to win the first cricket Test at Antigua.

Resuming at 3-199 on the final day, the Black Caps lost their last seven wickets for just 73 runs inside 32 overs to be all out for 272 – an overall lead of 101.

Aside from 30 from wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk, none of the batsmen produced an innings of note, moving the match from a likely draw outcome to a probable West Indies victory.

Pace bowler Kemar Roach took four of the seven wickets to fall on the fifth day to finish with innings figures of 5-60.

The New Zealander to show most application was nightwatchman Neil Wagner, who lasted 103 balls for his 13.

It was his dismissal shortly after lunch that sparked a collapse, with specialist batsmen Kane Williamson and Dean Brownlie failing to reach double figures on a wearing pitch.
