Michael Clarke missed Australia’s final Champions Trophy warm-up clash due to his back injury and remains in doubt for Saturday’s tournament opener against England.
Clarke was left out of the side that clashed with India in Cardiff on Tuesday, with the Australia captain unable to prove his fitness.
“Michael is still experiencing some lower back pain and as such is not fit for the warm-up game against India,” team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Michael will head to London tomorrow for specialist treatment and a decision on his fitness for the next game will be made in due course.”
Clarke missed the final Test of the recent 4-0 series defeat in India due to back and hamstring problems and is yet to regain full fitness.
The 32-year-old was not involved in Australia’s first Champions Trophy tune-up, against West Indies on Saturday, and was also left out of the XI that took on India in a one-day clash at Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium.
Australia start their Champions Trophy defence with a match against England at Edgbaston, the first of many games this year between the Ashes rivals.
Clarke’s men have shown solid form since arriving in the UK, they posted a four-wicket victory over West Indies and reduced India to 5-101 after 25 overs of the Cardiff clash.
Mitch Starc and Clint McKay had two wickets each at the halfway point of India’s innings.
