Overlooked for an international Twenty20 call-up, Luke Pomersbach looks set to take out his frustration in Sunday’s one-day cup clash with Tasmania after being called up by Queensland selectors on Wednesday.
And captain James Hopes will return from a hamstring complaint that crippled his Big Bash League campaign for the Brisbane Heat in the Bulls’ must-win encounter at the Gabba.
Pomersbach this week missed out on capping a remarkable comeback story when he was a glaring omission in the national squad to play two T20 clashes against Sri Lanka over the Australia Day long weekend.
The big-hitting left-hander helped steer the Brisbane Heat to the BBL title, turning around a career that was at the crossroads after being dumped by Western Australia for alcohol-related discipline breaches.
He signed a one-year deal with Queensland last July and has not looked back.
Pomersbach, who thrashed 397 runs at a strike-rate of 140 in the BBL, will look to repeat his heroics in the one-day arena as Queensland look to reel in the top two.
Third-placed Queensland are on 13 points behind No.2 outfit South Australia (18pts) and ladder leaders Victoria (19pts).
Meanwhile, former Test quick Ryan Harris is also taking major strides on the comeback trail after being picked for the Queensland Academy of Sport’s Futures League clash with NSW 2nd XI at Blacktown on Monday.
Harris has been building his bowling workload in the past month after returning from an off-season shoulder operation.
