Bulls name Swan as new bowling coach

Former Queensland paceman Chris Swan has been named as the Bulls’ new bowling coach following the departure of Ashley Noffke.

Swan, who retired from cricket at the end of the 2010-11 first-class season, played 31 Sheffield Shield matches for the Bulls, claiming 101 wickets including a haul of 13-144 against South Australia which remains the third-best figures in Queensland’s first-class history.

The 34-year-old will take over as bowling coach following former allrounder Noffke’s departure due to family and business reasons.

The Bulls have also announced former wicketkeeper Gavin Fitness will replace Wade Seccombe as fielding coach following Seccombe’s departure.

Bulls head coach Darren Lehmann said he was happy with the new appointments.

“Chuck (Seccombe) and Noffers did a wonderful job for us, and we’ll miss their expertise and devotion to the group, although I can understand them wanting to devote more time to their young families and their businesses,” Lehmann said.

“But I’m glad that we have secured the two blokes we have. No-one who has played with or against them would question their passion for Queensland and their teammates, or their skill levels, and I know they’ll both be super keen to get involved as coaches.”

In addition to the Bulls, the pair will also work with the Brisbane Heat Big Bash League franchise, the Queensland Fire women’s team and the Queensland Academy of Sport and Queensland youth programs.
