Bulls face huge task in Shield v WA

Sheffield Shield leaders Queensland face a massive final-day assignment as they chase a record fourth-innings target of 440 against Western Australia at the Gabba.

On a day dominated by the last-placed Warriors, the Bulls went to stumps on day three at 2-88 – requiring another 352 runs for an unlikely outright victory.

The defending champions will have to score at 3.66 per over but they have only passed 400 once this season – 406 against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

Much lies on the shoulders of recalled opener Greg Moller (48 not out) who has looked Queensland’s most assured batsmen in the topsy-turvy match.

Moller will resume with Peter Forrest (11 not out) on Thursday morning after the Bulls lost Luke Pomersbach and Joe Burns in a testing final session.

The Warriors set the foundations for six points by amassing 496 in their second innings on a Brisbane wicket which has offered less to the seamers as the match has worn on.

Neither side passed 170 in their first innings but two middle-order century stands and a record last-wicket partnership of 94 by Ashton Agar and Michael Hogan put the last-placed visitors in command.

Queensland’s biggest successful fourth-innings run chase was 6-373 in 2000-01 against Tasmania at Allan Border Field.
