Bulls chasing outright win to defend title

Defending Sheffield Shield champions Queensland head to Western Australia with a reshuffled side desperately needing an outright victory at the WACA to have any chance of hosting the final.

Bulls selectors have made three changes to the squad which lost to Tasmania with batsman Dominic Michael and leg-spinner Cameron Boyce both dropped and paceman Alister McDermott not considered after straining his back against Tasmania.

Into Darren Lehman’s squad for the crucial showdown come experienced off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, allrounder Michael Neser and paceman Ronan McDonald.

Hauritz is returning from a calf strain which has sidelined him for the past fortnight, while McDonald is aiming to play his second game for the Bulls after making his first class debut two weeks ago against Victoria at the MCG.

If Gold Coast allrounder Neser plays it will be his first first-class game of the season.

All six states can make the final depending on the outcome of the last-round clashes.

To have a chance of hosting the final Queensland would have to beat the Warriors outright and hope the Tasmania-Victoria game ends in a draw and NSW defeat South Australia outright.

The Bulls fly to Perth on Tuesday with one last training session scheduled for Wednesday.

Queensland Bulls squad: James Hopes (c), Joe Burns, Peter Forrest, Cameron Gannon, Ryan Harris, Chris Hartley, Nathan Hauritz, Ronan McDonald, Greg Moller, Michael Neser, Luke Pomersbach, Nathan Reardon. (12th man to be named)
