Queensland have suffered a dramatic batting collapse to be bowled out for 149 by an all-star Victoria line-up on day one of their Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba.
The Bulls at one stage lost 3-5 in 12 balls after emerging from lunch at 3-55 as a Bushrangers attack boasting John Hastings (4-41), Test quick Peter Siddle (3-36), James Pattinson (2-29) and Clint McKay (1-30) flexed their muscles.
Usman Khawaja top scored with 28 for Queensland.
Claiming the prized scalp of Khawaja post-lunch sparked the remarkable rout as Queensland finally relented after hours of pressure cricket by the star studded Bushrangers.
Siddle had Khawaja caught behind and two balls later the tireless speedster trapped Joe Burns (11) in front.
Next over hulking allrounder Hastings struck a major body blow when Queensland skipper James Hopes attempted a loose cut and was caught behind for three and suddenly the Bulls were in deep trouble at 6-90.
Worse was to come – Hastings cleaned up the tail as Queensland lost 7-64 after lunch to be in big trouble on day one.
The return of skipper Cameron White, McKay, Matthew Wade and David Hussey and Siddle’s injection ensured a healthy headache for Victorian selectors ahead of the Shield clash.
It ensured Aaron Finch was relegated to 12th man days after inspiring a record one-day win with a whirlwind ton.
