England Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad has pulled out of the team’s cricket tour to Sri Lanka because of a calf strain.
The seamer played in England’s first Test defeat in Galle despite struggling with a sprained left ankle and damaged his right calf during the game.
He was in obvious discomfort as he batted in the second innings.
Broad had a scan on the injury on Friday and the England and Wales Cricket Board decided to fly him back to England for treatment.
The ECB says examinations “will determine his availability for all cricket including the IPL.”
England has not called up a replacement, leaving Tim Bresnan and Steve Finn in contention for his spot in the second Test.
