Brett Lee to retire from cricket

Veteran paceman Brett Lee is set to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket.

The 35-year-old Lee has called a media conference for 1pm (AEST) at the SCG and is expected to end his career due to his latest injury setback – a calf strain that resulted in an early departure from the recent one-day tour to the UK.

Lee endured a series of injuries and ailments – including side strains, stress fractures, ankle problems and appendicitis – throughout a career that netted 310 Test wickets and 380 one-day international scalps.

He was not offered a national contract in Cricket Australia’s latest round of agreements, and decided not to take up a deal with NSW.

He is one wicket short of Glenn McGrath’s Australian record of 381 ODI victims.
