Each of Australia’s World Cup-winning women’s cricketers will receive a $10,000 bonus for last month’s exploits in India.
Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Wally Edwards said on Friday the Southern Stars had been outstanding with their wins in the one-day World Cup and the Women’s World T20 Championship in Sri Lanka in 2012.
“Our players make many sacrifices to represent Australia as semi-professional cricketers and their performances are resulting in fans and media sitting up and taking notice of women’s cricket,” Edwards said after the CA board approved the bonuses.
“Hopefully, their consistently excellent and entertaining performances will see women’s cricket one day attracting commercial support from telecasters and sponsors that will see the game capable of supporting full-time professional female cricketers.”
CA says the bonus will be paid to all squad members from the two events.
The players were hosted by CA in Melbourne on Friday night at a celebration dinner.
Messages from Governor-General Quentin Bryce, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Federal Sports Minister Kate Lundy were delivered to the players.
Southern Stars’ coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick has also been reappointed.
