Adelaide Strikers coach Darren Berry will face a Cricket Australia (CA) disciplinary hearing over his verbal exchange with West Indies allrounder Marlon Samuels.
Berry was involved in an angry discussion with Melbourne Renegades star Samuels during the warm-up for Wednesday night’s Big Bash League match at Etihad Stadium.
CA on Thursday released a statement saying Berry had been reported for breaching the governing body’s code of behaviour, specifically “unbecoming behaviour regarding his comments and behaviour” towards Samuels.
The time and date of the hearing is yet to be determined.
Berry refused to discuss the issue with reporters after the match, which the Renegades won by 48 runs.
Renegades coach Simon Helmot said he had no idea what happened between the pair, while the team’s media spokesman said Samuels was unable to front the media because he was too emotional.
Brisbane Heat coach Darren Lehmann was given a $3000 suspended fine following a CA hearing after querying the legality of the Jamaican’s bowling action.
Helmot had said on Tuesday he felt Samuels wasn’t fazed by the drama over Lehmann’s comments.
“We all have feelings. You don’t like those sort of things being said,” Helmot said.
“He has pushed them to the side. Nothing much fazes Marlon.”
