Berry in angry clash with Samuels

Adelaide Strikers’ coach Darren Berry refused to comment on Wednesday night on what sparked his verbal clash with Melbourne Renegades’ allrounder Marlon Samuels.

Berry and the West Indian import exchanged words during the pre-match warm-up at Etihad Stadium.

The Renegades (5-1 win-loss) scored 6-155 and bowled the Strikers out for 107 in reply to claim a 48-run win and surge to the top of the table while Berry’s men are fourth on 3-3.

“Full credit to the Renegades. They outpointed us in all aspects tonight,” Berry said.

“It was our worst display for the season. If we had won we’d take top spot.

“Now we’re just middle of the pack with two to play.”

While Berry wouldn’t comment on the incident but was happy to speak about the game itself, the Renegades refused to make Samuels available to the media and claimed he was “too emotional”.

Samuels scored 16 runs and took 3-16 in a brilliant display with his offspinners, after having the legality of his bowling action questioned last month by Brisbane Heat coach Darren Lehmann.

Lehmann was handed a suspended fine of $3000 for his comments.
