Behrendorff puts WA Warriors in control

Young paceman Jason Behrendorff allowed Western Australia to wrestle back the advantage from Victoria on day two of their Sheffield Shield clash at a rain-sodden MCG.

Victoria resumed on 0-21 on Friday in reply to the Warriors’ 248 but the 22-year-old Behrendorff made sure the home side’s batsmen were not allowed to settle into their runscoring task on a seaming pitch.

In a session that included three rain interruptions, the Bushrangers went to lunch at 3-89 with opener Chris Rogers unbeaten on 40 and Aaron Finch on 21.

The 22-year-old Behrendorff, in his first Shield game of the season, removed Peter Handscomb caught in slips for 13 and Victoria captain Cameron White fell lbw next ball for a duck in the fourth over of the day.

Seven runs later with the total on 35, Indian umpire Vineet Kulkarni gave a furious David Hussey out for four after the batsman appeared to glove a short ball from Michael Hogan through to wicketkeeper Tom Triffitt.

Replays suggested the ball missed the bat and gloves.

Behrendorff claimed 2-4 in a five-over spell from the members’ end before Mitchell Johnson (0-37) replaced him.

Johnson bowled with good pace and produced a chance but was unable to hold on to a return catch from Rogers on 19.
