A more disciplined bowling performance from Zimbabwe induced a Bangladesh batting meltdown on Friday, as the visitors lost five wickets for 39 runs on the third morning of the first Test at Harare Sports Club.

Having bowled poorly on the second evening in allowing Bangladesh to race to an overnight total of 1-95, Zimbabwe’s pacemen tightened up in the first session on Friday and the rewards followed as Bangladesh collapsed to 6-134 at lunch.

Kyle Jarvis spearheaded the attack after a wayward Thursday in which he conceded 39 runs from eight overs, bowling six overs for just one run to heap pressure on the Bangladeshi batsmen.

It paid off at the other end when Keegan Meth grabbed his first two wickets in Test cricket, trapping Jahurul Islam lbw for 43 and bowling Mahmudullah off a bottom edge.

Shingirai Masakadza backed that up with three wickets, including two in the same over when Shakib Al Hasan edged to gully and then Mohammad Ashraful threw his wicket away for 38.

Masakadza also struck on the stroke of lunch, dismissing Bangladeshi captain Mushfiq Rahim lbw for seven.

The tourists trail by 255 runs with just four first-innings wickets remaining, after Zimbabwe had made 389 in their first dig.
