Bailey ton as Tassie make 275 v Qld

Tasmanian captain George Bailey has shown the way for his struggling side with a century in the one-day match against Queensland at Bellerive.

Bailey cracked 102 off 124 balls as the Tigers were all out for 275 on the last ball of the innings after they were sent in by Bulls’ skipper Chris Hartley.

The Australian Twenty20 captain had a life on 19 – a tough caught-and-bowled chance to Scott Walter – and looked to be the culprit in the runout of rising star Alex Doolan (48 off 68 balls).

But he led Tasmania past 200 for the first time in six innings at home in the one-day and four-day formats after a fortnight of misery for the 2011/12 Sheffield Shield and limited-overs finalists.

Bailey hit 10 fours and two sixes, bringing up the hundred off 122 balls with a nick through the vacant slips area and fell in the same Alister McDermott (3-65 from 13) over when he holed out to Jason Floros at long-on at 5-212.

He and Doolan came together at 2-8, putting on 94 before Doolan was stranded mid-pitch and Peter Forrest whipped off the bails at 3-102.

Jonathan Wells chipped in with 41 from 46 balls and allrounder James Faulkner made the score formidable with three sixes in one Ben Cutting over during a quickfire 30 from just 16 deliveries.

As well as McDermott, Nathan Hauritz finished with 3-53 from 11 and Scott Walter 2-52 from eight.

Earlier, former Test keeper Tim Paine’s comeback from a horrific finger injury continued to be painful when he was controversially given out caught behind for five from a McDermott delivery that exploded off the pitch.

Replays were inconclusive as to whether the ball brushed his glove and he was forced to linger as the umpires conferred, eventually confirming he was on his way.

The Bulls will be looking for the first victory of their campaign in their third match when they begin their chase needing 5.5 per over, while Tasmania have just one win from three games.
