Conditions that prompted a tornado-warning in Tasmania have meant no play so far on day one of the Sheffield Shield match between Tasmania and Queensland at Bellerive.
Weak tornadoes were seen in Hobart as the weather bureau issued a severe warning for the southeast of the state on Friday morning.
At Bellerive, the covers went down soon after the toss was won by Bulls’ captain Chris Hartley, who told Tasmania to bat on another green-top.
Play looked possible when there were some periods of sunshine but officials appeared to be concerned about the predicted bad weather closing in.
Showers arrived in the afternoon and play after tea looks doubtful.
The predicted hail stayed clear of Bellerive, as did the mini-twisters observed near Mt Wellington and around southern Tasmania.
“The tornadoes that were reported were very weak in severity and quite shortlived,” Bureau of Meteorology severe weather forecaster Matthew Michael told AAP.
