Aust’s Matthew Wade injures ankle in India

Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade will have scans on Sunday on an ankle injury, just four days before the third Test against India in Mohali.

Wade is Australia’s only gloveman in their 16-man squad and has already battled injury in last week’s second Test in Hyderabad where he played on with the aid of painkillers after fracturing his cheekbone at training.

“Matt Wade sprained his right ankle playing basketball yesterday afternoon,” team physio Alex Kountouris said in a statement on Sunday.

“His ankle is subsequently swollen and painful so will have a scan this morning to help determine the extent of the injury and how we manage it.

“He will not take part in today’s training session.”

Wade’s predecessor as Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin from NSW is a possible replacement if Wade is ruled unfit.

India lead the four-match series two-nil.
