Preview:

England will square off against Australia again on Thursday night after Justin Langer’s side squandered a chance to finish on top of the ladder by beating South Africa.

The Aussies will still take full confidence into this match knowing Aaron Finch and David Warner both put forward a strong opening partnership against England last month though, but the lack of depth could hurt Australia if both get out early.

Since their struggles, England’s batting has found some form in recent weeks. Johnny Bairstow has recorded back-to-back centuries, while Jason Roy has recorded back-to-back half centuries.

So much of this match comes down to Australia’s fast bowling, which has been close to unstoppable. Mitchell Starc owns 26 wickets so far through the World Cup, but if England’s openers establish dominance early, Australia might be left looking for somebody to step up.

Winning the toss is crucial as both sides look to get in early and bat. If England can take the crease first, their opening partnership followed by Joe Root look tough to beat.
