Preview:
England will head into a game as slight favourites for perhaps the first time since the first Test of the Australian summer. Many of the Australian regulars have already been posted off to South Africa to prepare for their upcoming Test series so there is no David Warner, Shane Watson or Mitchell Johnson to torment England in the T20 format.
England, meanwhile, still have a handful of their players who started the tour remaining. Stuart Broad, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Tim Bresnan and Boyd Rankin all remain out in Australia in an attempt to salvage something, anything positive from this awful tour.
All T20s currently being contested are done so with March’s upcoming World T20 in the back of everyone’s minds. Finding the right combination of first-choice players with solid back up is crucial.
Australia’s captain, George Bailey, was quoted by ESPNCricinfo as admitting that for the Aussies, that is one of their biggest challenges.
The Hobart track has been good for batting in the Big Bash League with scores all over 160 in the three games played there. Whoever keeps their cool and stays patient will come up trumps.
