Australia captain Michael Clarke has chosen to bat first after winning the toss in his side’s first one-day international against minnows Afghanistan, to be played in heatwave conditions in Sharjah.
The game is due to start at 6pm (2400 AEDT), with a minimum overnight temperature of 30 degrees forecast.
Clarke has promoted himself to No.3 in the batting order, while allrounder Glenn Maxwell makes his international debut.
Australia will also face Pakistan in a three-match series starting on Tuesday.
