Punters have reacted to the news of Jonathan Trott’s departure by heavily backing Australia to win next month’s 2nd Ashes Test in Adelaide.
Australia’s odds of victory in Adelaide have shortened from $2.60 into $2.50 at Sportingbet, while England’s odds have drifted from $3.25 out to $3.50. A draw in Adelaide is $2.65 at Sportingbet.
The odds of Australia winning the series and reclaiming the Ashes have also shortened from $1.65 into $1.60.
“Trott’s departure is yet another serious setback for England and our punters are confident Australia will be victorious in Adelaide before going on to reclaim the Ashes,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
Prior to the 1st Test in Brisbane, Trott was a $5 equal second favourite with Kevin Pietersen to score the most series runs for England.
Alastair Cook is now a $2.75 favourite at Sportingbet to score the most series runs for England, ahead of Pietersen and Ian Bell, both at $4.50.
David Warner is a $2.50 favourite ahead of Michael Clarke at $2.75 to score the most series runs for Australia.
