Australia are being made to work hard once more by the West Indies on the first day of the third Test in Dominica.
At tea, Australia had battled to 3-136 with Ricky Ponting (18no) and Michael Clarke (15no) following a session when just 67 runs were scored for the loss of two wickets.
The two to fall after lunch were Shane Watson and David Warner, who added 83 runs for the second wicket.
Watson (41) was the first to go, caught in the deep when he top-edged a pull shot off Darren Sammy (1-24).
Warner (50), dropped in the slips by Sammy when he was on five, posted his first half-century of the tour but fell when he could only chip a Shane Shillingford (1-38) delivery to cover-point to leave Australia 3-105.
Shillingford’s wicket delighted the crowd, the Dominican being the first player from the island nation to play in a home Test match.
The tall off-spinner was unlucky not to get more than one wicket, with several possible catches falling short of fielders as Australia struggled to handle the bounce and turn of his deliveries.
Ed Cowan was the only wicket to fall in the morning session, trapped LBW without offering a shot off Ravi Rampaul (1-30) in the second over.
That left Australia 1-1 before Warner and Watson steered the tourists to 1-69 at the break.
Both teams made changes to their line-ups for this Test with Rampaul replacing Fidel Edwards in the Windies team while Mitchell Starc and Ryan Harris came in for Australia.
Harris replaced injured paceman James Pattinson while Starc won the selection race ahead of spinner Michael Beer to play in his first Test since January’s clash with India in Perth.
