Australia make 220 vs WI in 3rd ODI

Michael Hussey and George Bailey shared a century stand before a late collapse restricted Australia to 220 in the third one-day international against the West Indies on Tuesday.

Hussey and Bailey added 112 for the fourth wicket before Australia lost their last six wickets for just 18 runs to be dismissed with one ball remaining in the innings.

Hussey top-scored with 67 while Bailey, in his third one-day match for Australia, made his maiden half-century, scoring 59.

The 50s were the first by any batsmen so far in the five-game series, which is tied at 1-1 following the hosts’ five-wicket win on Sunday.

The West Indies began brightly, removing Shane Watson (10) and Matthew Wade (2) early to have Australia 2-38 in the 10th over.

David Warner made a breezy 37 but was caught at point trying to cut Darren Sammy (1-27) to leave Australia 3-58 and struggling to get going on the slow wicket.

That brought Hussey and Bailey together, the pair batting with patience and purpose, choosing the right balls to attack as they combined for 25.3 overs.

Both batsmen fell to the spin of Marlon Samuels (2-39) with Hussey’s demise in the 46th over prompting Australia’s late collapse.

Kemar Roach (2-42) and spinner Sunil Narine (3-32) combined to dismiss the Australians with Brett Lee, Clint McKay and Xavier Doherty all scoring ducks.
