Australia will head to England for the July/August Ashes at the longest odds they have been in decades to win an Ashes series.
Punters have written off Australia’s chances, backing England from $1.75 into clear-cut $1.45 favourites with Sportingbet. Australia’s odds have drifted from $3.00 out to $4.25. A drawn series is $6.50.
“They are the longest odds Australia has been to win an Ashes series in living memory,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“Punters have just kept chipping away at England’s odds after every bad performance from the Aussies,” Sullivan said.
“We’ve taken a stack of significant bets on the poms to win and one punter has even heavily backed them to win 5-0, 4-0 and 4-1, which sums up the confidence our punters have in the Aussies,” Sullivan said.
Sportingbet has England at odds of $301 to win the combined home and away series 10 nil.
Michael Clarke is a $2.75 favourite with Sportingbet to score the most runs for Australia in the England series, while James Pattinson is a $3.50 favourite ahead of Peter Siddle at $3.75 to take the most wickets.
