Aust T20 series player ratings

Australian player ratings out of 10 at the conclusion of the Twenty20 series against the West Indies which finished 1-1 after two matches on Friday.

SHANE WATSON – 8

Named man of the series. Played a starring all-round role in the game one victory scoring 69 runs and taking 1-16 off four overs with the ball. Failed with the bat in game two but still took 2-26.

BRETT LEE – 7.5

Good with the ball in both games. Took 2-30 in first match and 3-23 in the second. Nearly had a brilliant run-out following a direct hit from the boundary during the second match as well. Still delivers at the top level.

CLINT McKAY – 7.5

Used variation to great effect, particularly in game two. Finished with 2-24 in that match and played a large part in stopping the West Indies from challenging 200 after their quick start.

DAN CHRISTIAN – 7

Good efforts in both matches with the ball, taking 3-27 in game one and 1-20 in game two but failed in his only chance with the bat in game two when a more composed innings could have guided Australia to a win.

MICHAEL HUSSEY – 7

Played a brilliant innings in game one, making an unbeaten 59 to steer Australia to victory. Was one of three top-order players to fall cheaply to part-time spinner Marlon Samuels in the game two defeat however.

GEORGE BAILEY – 7

Did what he had to with minimum of fuss playing two solid, if unspectacular, innings. Was good in the field, taking a particularly difficult high catch during the second match. Led well, particularly in second match to stop Windies’ batting onslaught with clever use of bowlers.

DAVID WARNER – 6.5

Made 58 in second game and looked good despite plenty of verbal attention by the West Indies after he’d given Kieron Pollard a bit of a send-off. Duck in first match costs him some points.

JAMES PATTINSON – 6.5

Bowled well in first game but was taken to the cleaners by Dwayne Smith in the second, conceding 34 runs off two overs. Didn’t return to bowl out his overs and will hope to get a bit more time to shake off his rust ahead of the Test series.

DAVID HUSSEY – 5.5

Didn’t bat in the first game and fell trying to bat with the tail in the second after the match was pretty much gone. Limited opportunities for Australia’s most-capped T20 player.

MATTHEW WADE – 5.5

Glove-work was again solid and would have enjoyed more Australian conditions in Barbados. Only had one innings and struggled to get going, making 17 off 20 before falling caught and bowled to a full toss by Samuels.

XAVIER DOHERTY – 4

Not the greatest series for the left-arm spinner. Saves a lot of runs with work in the field but went for over 10 runs an over in both games, taking just one wicket. Was out-bowled by Windies spinner Sunil Narine in both matches.
