Australia’s cricketers appear resigned to drawing the second Test with the West Indies in Trinidad.
At lunch on day five in the rain-marred clash, Australia had reached 5-123 – a lead of 177 – after making just 50 runs from 25 overs on Thursday morning.
Ricky Ponting (41) and Michael Clarke (15) were the two batsmen to fall with Matthew Wade (15no) and Michael Hussey (11no) unbeaten at the break.
Ponting fell hooking Fidel Edwards (1-28) straight down Kieran Powell’s throat at square leg.
The wicket was Edwards’ first of the match after beating the edge of the bat several times in both innings.
Windies skipper Darren Sammy (1-17) then chipped in with a sharp reaction catch off his own bowling to remove Clarke and leave Australia 5-95.
The Australia captain’s dismissal seemed to end any thoughts of pushing for quick runs to secure a series-clinching win with Wade and Hussey crawling to the break.
