George Bailey struck a half-century as Australia struggled to 9-217 against a Stuart Broad-inspired England in Sunday’s one-day international at Adelaide Oval.
Bailey top-scored with 56 from 74 balls as Broad took three wickets and a catch to help curtail Australia in the last game of the five-match series.
Australia, holding a 3-1 series lead, were stifled with only Bailey, Shaun Marsh (36) and Matthew Wade (31) passing 30.
Broad claimed 3-31 from 10 overs while allrounder Ben Stokes continued his impressive tour by taking 3-43.
The Australians won the toss and batted but, by the 20th over, had crashed to 4-64.
Opener Aaron Finch was dropped twice before being bowled by Broad for seven.
The England quick struck again in his next over, having Shane Watson caught at slip for a fourth-ball duck – the delivery after Broad unsuccessfully reviewed a lbw shout against the Australian.
Captain Michael Clarke made eight from 26 balls before trying to pull a Tim Bresnan delivery but getting an inside edge onto his stumps.
And opener Marsh (36 from 52 balls) fell in the 20th over when he clipped a catch to Alastair Cook at midwicket in Stokes’ first over.
Bailey and Glenn Maxwell steadied the innings with a 48-run partnership in 10 overs but found boundaries difficult – in the initial 28 overs, just seven fours were struck.
Maxwell’s knock of 22 from 35 balls ended when caught behind by Jos Buttler from Stokes’ bowling when attempting a drive.
Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade then joined Bailey for a 55-run union which ended when Bailey became Stokes’ third victim, caught at mid-on by Broad.
Two overs later, Wade was bowled around his legs by Broad to leave Australia 7-176 in the 43rd over, before James Faulkner (27 from 27 balls) offered some late impetus.
