Aussies keen to make up for lost time

Australia will look to make up for lost time on the third day of the first cricket Test against world No.1 South Africa at the Gabba on Sunday.

The Proteas hope to resume at 2-255 after a day’s play was washed out at a Brisbane Test for the first time since 1983.

Saturday’s wash-out was also the first time in 14 years rain had prevented any play in a Test on Australian soil.

Day two was abandoned 90 minutes before scheduled stumps and the only action for Australian players was serving at merchandise stands and signing autographs.

Disappointed coach Mickey Arthur has demanded Australia’s pacemen learn from their day one mistakes and make the most of the second new-ball when South Africa hopefully resume their first innings on Sunday.

The Proteas are in the box seat after world No.2 batsman Hashim Amla was not out 90 at the end of day one after fast bowler Peter Siddle dropped a caught and bowled chance on 74.

Champion allrounder Jacques Kallis is unbeaten on 84 after being caught off a Siddle no-ball on 43.

Rain is predicted again.
