Aussies hopeful Mitch Marsh will bat

Mitch Marsh faces the prospect of another stint on the sidelines, having suffered his fifth hamstring injury in a tick over two years.

Marsh limped off the Gabba shortly after lunch on day one of the second Test, having pulled up sore after bowling his sixth over.

The allrounder, who celebrated his maiden Test wicket in the morning session, never returned to the field on Wednesday.

“He will have a scan and we’ll try to get him on the field tomorrow and hopefully have him batting in some way that’s useful,” team physio Alex Kountouris said.

“He’s got a mild hamstring strain … on the right leg.

“He’s had surgery on the left leg a year ago and he also injured the right one about two years ago.”

Australia coach Darren Lehmann conceded Marsh’s latest setback was “not a great sign”.

“It’s about getting him back playing and hopefully he has a big part to play with the bat in this game,” Lehmann said.
