Lisa Sthalekar top-scored with 23 in Australia’s total of 7-115 in their Women’s World Twenty20 knockout semi-final against West Indies on Friday.
Skipper Jodie Fields finished unbeaten on 19 for the defending champions, with five players scoring 15 or better on a slow-paced Colombo pitch.
Spinners Shanel Daley and Shaquana Quintyne both took 2-23.
Daley produced an arm-ball which pierced Alyssa Healy’s defences for a second-ball duck in the opening over.
Jess Cameron hit a four and her six in her innings of 11 before missing an attempted cut shot off Daley’s bowling as the ball crashed into her stumps.
Sixteen-year-old legspinner Quintyne struck with her first delivery as Meg Lanning (19) chipped a catch to cover.
Sthalekar played a steadying hand before holing out to deep mid-wicket at 4-68 off Tremayne Smartt’s bowling and Quintyne claimed a second victim by pouching a return catch to dismiss Alex Blackwell (21).
Rachael Haynes (15) and Erin Osborne (1) were run out in the final over.
The Windies were brilliant in the field and unleashed five spinners upon the Australians plus two seamers in a seven-pronged bowling attack.
