A dynamic all-round display by Jess Jonassen inspired Australia to an 86-run trouncing of the West Indies in Wednesday’s Twenty20 women’s international.
In reply to Australia’s imposing 4-160, the Windies mustered just 9-74 from their 20 overs at Adelaide Oval.
Australia took a two-nil lead in the best-of-five series after Jonassen starred with bat, ball and in the field.
The Queenslander opened the batting and blasted three sixes in a quickfire 47 from 39 balls – her highest T20 international score.
Jonassen later opened the bowling with her left-arm spinners and promptly completed a smart low-down caught-and-bowled in her first over.
The 22-year-old’s influence continued in the next over when she snared a running catch at mid-off as the Windies crashed to 2-2 – and they never recovered.
Jonassen captured another wicket to finish with figures of 2-12 from four overs and she also featured in a run-out.
Compatriot Kristen Beams claimed 3-16 from four overs, Ellyse Perry took 2-10 and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy completed two stumpings, two catches and a run-out.
Earlier, Jonassen fired with the bat and her opening partner Elyse Villani and captain Meg Lanning also feasted on the Windies’ bowlers.
Jonassen featured in a 93-run opening partnership with Villani, who top-scored with 50 from 34 balls.
Skipper Lanning then finished with a flourish, cracking an unbeaten 45 from only 26 balls.
Australia can seal a series win in game three in Sydney next Tuesday with matches in the NSW capital (November 11) and Bowral (November 13) to follow.
