Australia have continued their strong start to the Women’s World Twenty20 title defence with a 25-run win over Pakistan in Saturday’s rain-affected Group A match in Galle.
Australia made 5-146 and Pakistan reached 3-38 from nine overs when the rain arrived.
Australia won by 25 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis Method for rain-affected games.
Alyssa Healy (36) and Meg Lanning (16) added 53 for the first wicket after skipper Jodie Fields won the toss.
Player of the match Jess Cameron smacked 42 off 28 balls including two sixes and shared a third-wicket partnership of 67 with Lisa Sthalekar (29).
“Even though we started out a little slower than we probably wanted, it was great to see a players like Jess Cameron come in and play their natural game,” Fields said.
“We will approach our next match against England (on Monday) as we have with these first two matches. We will go away and train hard in the nets tomorrow and do our planning on the England players, but ultimately we will be focussing on what we do well.”
Ellyse Perry claimed 2-19 from four overs for Australia.
Australia opened their campaign with an eight-wicket win over India.
Group B comprises New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and hosts Sri Lanka.
