Aussie-born Robson aiming for England spot

England hopeful Sam Robson has targeted more big scores for Middlesex to strengthen his claim to international selection this summer.

The Australian-born 24-year-old lifted his overnight total of 144 to 163 on day three of the County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire at Lord’s.

Robson is in contention to face Sri Lanka and India this summer and knows the best way to win a first cap is to impress for Middlesex.

“I’ve just got to trying to get as many scores as I can. That’s how I’ve always approached it. Big scores count and I’ll keep on doing my best,” Robson said.

“It would have been nice to go on a little bit more, but that happens.

“It’s not the end of the world, I’m happy with how I played and pleased to contribute in an important period of the match.”

A final-session fightback from Riki Wessels and Chris Read, who finished not out on 20 and 43 respectively, helped Notts to 184 for five, a lead of 71 heading into the fourth day.

Middlesex, though, are in a commanding position, despite the final half hour of the day at Lord’s.
