Aus claim first-innings lead of 65 runs

Australia claimed a first-innings lead of 65 runs in the Boxing Day Test, wasting little time on day four to bowl India out for 465.

India’s resistance on Monday lasted 12 minutes.

Mitchell Johnson, smacked around by centurions Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane the day before, snared a wicket with the second ball of the day.

Johnson had Umesh Yadav caught behind with a short delivery, completing a double-wicket maiden after he dismissed Kohli with the final ball on Sunday.

In Johnson’s following over, Mohammed Shami was out edging for 12 with Steve Smith taking the catch at second slip.

The left-armer finished with figures of 3-135 from 30.5 overs, copping the brunt of the treatment dished out by Kohli and Rahane in their 262-run partnership.

Kohli scored 169, while Rahane compiled 147 – both their highest Test scores.

Kohli then told reporters he feels no reason to respect some Australian cricketers, claiming their words spurred him on during a masterful century.

“They were calling me a spoilt brat,” Kohli told reporters.

“I said ‘maybe that’s the way I am – I know you guys hate me and I like that’.

“I don’t mind having a chat on the field and it worked in my favour.

“I like playing against Australia because it’s very hard for them to stay calm.

“It really excites me and brings the best out in me. They don’t seem to be learning the lesson.”
