Ross Taylor’s dream home summer continued as New Zealand cleared 300 batting first in the fifth and final one-day international against India in Wellington.
Taylor scored 102 off 106 balls, his second century in successive innings, as the hosts reached an imposing 5-303 after being sent in.
The former captain’s 10th ODI ton was the first by a New Zealander at Westpac Stadium and gave India a sizeable task to record their first win in a series they trail 3-0.
Once again, India’s bowlers struggled through the middle overs, giving in-form pair Taylor and Kane Williamson (88 off 91) the chance to rebuild after the Black Caps made a slow start.
Openers Jesse Ryder (17 off 26) and Martin Guptill (16 off 35) continued mixed series before Williamson maintained his remarkable run of consistency.
He has passed 50 in all five games and it took a sharp catch from Ajinkya Rahane at point off seamer Varun Aaron to end a series in which he has compiled 361 runs at 72.2.
Even those figures were eclipsed by Taylor, continuing his prodigious form from the pre-Christmas Test series against the West Indies. His 343 runs came at an average of 85.8.
The pair put on 152 for the third wicket before late cameos from captain Brendon McCullum (23 off 18) and allrounder James Neesham (34 not out off 19).
New-ball bowler Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian attack, with three early maidens, before his figures of 1-61 were ruined by some late fireworks.
India made one change from the side who lost the fourth match at Hamilton by seven wickets, recalling opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan for allrounder Stuart Binny.
New Zealand again rotated their seam attack, bringing in Mitchell McClenaghan and Matt Henry for Hamish Bennett and Tim Southee.
It is the international debut for 22-year-old right-armer Henry.
