Adam Voges named Shield player of the year

West Australian skipper Adam Voges’ rich batting contribution has seen the right-hander named Sheffield Shield player of the year.

A day before the 35-year-old leads his side into the Shield final against Victoria in Hobart, Voges was handed the gong, with polling showing he held out teammate Michael Klinger by six votes.

Voges has scored 1215 runs this season – including his highest ever first-class total of 249 against South Australia in February – and sits eighth on the all-time list for most runs in a Shield season.
