NBA star Bogut suffers fractured ankle

Luckless NBA star Andrew Bogut’s season is in doubt after scans revealed the Milwaukee Bucks centre suffered a fractured ankle on Wednesday.

Bogut landed awkwardly on the foot of Houston guard Kyle Lowry after attempting to block a shot during the Bucks’ victory over the Rockets but was optimistic before scans revealed the full extent of the damage.

The 27-year-old confirmed the injury news through his Twitter account.

“I will get back from this,” he said.

“Injury was beyond my control. First step, walking again.”

A statement released by the Bucks on Thursday (Friday AEDT), said the Boomer would be out of action indefinitely.

“Andrew returned to Milwaukee this morning to be evaluated by Bucks orthopaedic physician Michael Gordon, MD, and to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on his left ankle,” Milwaukee Bucks GM John Hammond said in the statement.

“The results of the MRI identified a left ankle fracture which will keep Bogut out indefinitely.”

The news continues Bogut’s tough run with injuries in recent years, most notably a horrific broken arm suffered in 2010 which continues to give him troubles.

Earlier this season Bogut sat out four games to allow him to fly back to Australia for a family emergency, with the Bucks losing all four matches he missed.

The setback will almost certainly hinder his Olympic preparations with the London Games starting in July.
