Lakers claim dramatic NBA win over Celtics

Pau Gasol’s block of Ray Allen’s putback attempt at the buzzer in overtime secured Los Angeles a dramatic one-point NBA win over Boston.

Gasol, who finished with 25 points, denied Allen to seal an 88-87 victory for the Lakers in Boston.

Allen scored 22 points for the Celtics, who had won five in a row going into the match, while Kobe Bryant top-scored with 27 for the Lakers.

Kevin Garnett had an off-night for the Celtics, only managing 6 for 23 from the field while Paul Pierce was 7 for 18 including the missed jump-shot that Allen tried to push home on the rebound before Gasol’s intervention.

In Sacramento, the Kings pulled off a stunning upset by beating Oklahoma City 106-101, dropping the Thunder out of the NBA lead.

Tyreke Evans scored 22 points and DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and nine rebounds for Sacramento, which is in last place in the Pacific Division.

Sacramento scored their last nine points on free throws.

Russell Westbrook scored 33 points for Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City, who fell behind Chicago for the overall lead. The Thunder squandered an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter, committing six of their 23 turnovers in the period.

Elsewhere, Houston made it three straight wins with a 96-89 road win over Phoenix, while a season-best haul of 36 points by Golden State’s Stephen Curry lifted the Warriors to a 109-101 win in Denver.
