Sydney take 1-0 ABL lead over Melbourne

Sydney took a one-nil lead in their Australian Baseball League post-season series against Melbourne on Wednesday night with a 7-5 victory at Melbourne Showgrounds.

The Blue Sox trailed 3-1 after four innings before powering home a five-run fifth inning to take a lead they would never surrender.

Blue Sox first baseman Boss Moanaroa starred for the visiting side, slamming a home run and batting in four runs from his three hits to take the game away from the Aces.

Sydney’s bullpen pitched four scoreless frames to nail down the win.

The victory moves them one step closer to reaching the Championship Series, with the winner of this best-of-five series to face Perth in the decider next week.

The series continues, with game two to be played on Thursday evening.
