Melbourne to play Perth for the ABL title

Melbourne Aces will play Perth Heat for the Australian Baseball League title.

The Aces trailed Sydney Bluesox 2-1 in their playoff series heading into Sunday’s doubleheader at Melbourne Showgrounds.

The home side exploded for a total of 35 hits and 29 runs to win both games and take the series 4-1.

Melbourne won Game Four 14-4, led by a four-hit output from Paul Weichard and two Brad Harman home runs.

Travis Blackley bounced back from his rough Wednesday start by striking out eight over five innings and allowing just two runs to pick up the win.

In Game Five, the Aces triumphed 15-3, Harman adding his third home run of the night and Elliot Biddle adding a pair of his own.

Jeff Jamnik was outstanding on the mound, striking out seven and surrendering just seven hits .

Mitch Dening was Sydney’s best performer, connecting for a home run in each game to finish with four in the series.

The Aces and the Heat begin their title-deciding, best-of-five series Friday at Perth’s Barbagallo Ballpark.
