Preview:

The first Sunday game of round 19 is between the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans, kicking off at Etihad Stadium at 1.10pm. The Bulldogs might have had a good
win against West Coast last week, but that doesn’t take away a whole season of disappointing play. The Swans should be able to win this match easily, with the Sydney
team finding momentum at the right time of the season. Even with the Swans suffering from multiple injuries, it’s hard to see them losing here against a struggling
Bulldogs outfit.

Swans hope ruck duo can tire Minson

Sydney will bank on the fact two heads are better than one when it comes to dealing with in-form Western Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson in their AFL match on Sunday.

Fresh from beating Richmond by 47 points, Swans ruckman Shane Mumford believes his side are starting to hit form at the right time, and will need nothing less than their best to beat the improving Bulldogs.

Paramount to that is shutting down Minson, who has enjoyed a breakout season and played well again in the Dogs’ surprise 22-point win over West Coast on Sunday.

Mumford says the fact Minson shoulders much of the ruck load solo is something he and his ruck partner Mike Pyke hope will favour them.

“Hopefully we can work him round the ground – he seems to do a fair load of the ruck work himself,” Mumford said.

“If we can work him forwards and backwards and tire him out by the end of the game, that would be a good result for us.

“It’s a massive challenge for me and Pykey with the way Will Minson is playing – he’s a quality ruckman.”

The premiers sit third.

They end their home-and-away season with matches against fellow top four aspirants Geelong and Hawthorn – heaping more importance on winnable matches like those against the Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.
