A rematch from Round 5 is in order on Friday between the red-hot Power and a Bulldogs side fighting to hang in the finals hunt.
Port ran out 14-point winners at home in a low-scoring stoush earlier in April, Ken Hinkley’s side holding the Bulldogs to just one goal in the final term behind a monster game from Zak Butters.
In what was a sign of things to come, the Power midfield could arguably rival Collingwood right now – Butters firmly in the Brownlow conversation alongside former winner Ollie Wines, and of course, 23-year-old youngster, Connor Rozee.
On the opposite end of the spectrum sits a Bulldogs midfield in all sorts.
Turnovers were the theme of the night in last week’s 22-point loss to Geelong as a handful of key names struggled to find targets. Bailey Smith had a shocking night by foot, while Bailey Dale also surrendered the footy on more than one occasion.
Perhaps more worrying is the Bulldogs’ forward line, though.
Aaron Naughton, Marcus Bontempelli, and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan all missed crucial shots at times, a recurring problem that has plagued the Dogs for the better part of two seasons.
Fortunately, Port has had its own troubles by foot this year, but with the midfield firing on all cylinders and Aliir Aliir in All-Australian form down back, the Power have been able to overcome it.
The Dogs are always a tough out under the roof at Marvel, but with Port finally kicking a score last week against the Hawks, they look the more polished team right now.
