Preview:
The Western Bulldogs play North Melbourne on Saturday, 4.40pm at Etihad Stadium. While North Melbourne have had a tough start to the season at 2-4, they have showed some signs of promise and are certainly performing better than their table position would lead you to believe. They will go into this match as favourites against a Dogs side on the slide, who have now lost five in a row and look likely to find a home in the bottom four.

Brent Harvey returns for the Roos after a 6 week suspension, with his first game back looking like it might be a win.

Petrie re-signs for North Melbourne

Veteran North Melbourne forward Drew Petrie has signed a new two-year deal with the Kangaroos.

The co vice-captain, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, has agreed to remain until the end of the 2015 season.

Petrie, 30, has played 228 games and kicked 274 goals, all with the Kangaroos, and has previously said he wanted to remain a one club player.

“There will be more movement of players in the coming years with free agency, which is great for players, but that’s never entered my mind,” Petrie said.

“As along as the club was happy to do a deal then I was always happy to stay.”

Petrie said the potential of a bigger pay packet on the open market was never enough to lure him away from North Melbourne.

“Loving the club the way I do, just wanting to play at one club was more than enough reasons, but I’ve got a young family and to up and move for a couple of years was no value, so there was a lot more upside in staying at North Melbourne.”

Petrie also said he was encouraged by the personnel at Aegis Park.

“There is plenty of future here at the moment.

“While we haven’t got the wins on the board, there is a lot more depth of talent now,” he said.

“…there is definitely potential for some good finals action in the next couple of years and that’s why I want to stay around to be a part of it.”

Petrie is confident his fitness will see him through the next two years.

“The body is good. I don’t want to jinx myself, but apart from 2010, I’ve only missed one game through injury across 13 years.

“I missed one game with a rolled ankle in `06.

“I’ve always been very professional with preparing each week and making sure the body is in good nick.

“You have got to be more particular now after reaching the big 30. I do enjoy the recovery side of footy and I still love training and getting out there on the track,” he said.
