Preview:

The last game of round 2 is between the Bulldogs and North Melbourne, kicking off on Sunday, 4.40pm at Etihad Stadium.  North Melbourne will be favourites to win here, although this game really could go either way.  Both the Bulldogs and the Roos suffered a loss in round 1, and North Melbourne especially were expected to perform much better than they did against Essendon.

The Bulldogs also performed badly against the West Coast Eagles in round 1, in a display that would have worried supporters due to a real lack of goal scoring opportunities.  In contrast, North have the likes of Lindsay Thomas to make a difference this weekend, and should be able to topple the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs will be hoping for a good game from 19-year-old midfielder Jack Macrae, who was one of only a few good players against the Eagles with 31 possessions and two goals.

News:

The Western Bulldogs have confirmed All-Australian midfielder Ryan Griffen will return from a back injury in Sunday’s AFL round-two match against North Melbourne.

The two-time club champion will also have the chance to lead the side in his new role as skipper, having missed last week’s loss to West Coast in Perth.

The Bulldogs have also included rookie-elevated Lin Jong and 56-game key forward Liam Jones for the Etihad Stadium clash.

They replace Tory Dickson, Brett Goodes and ruck/forward Tom Campbell.

Jong, 20, will play his fifth senior game after the Bulldogs reacted strongly at the selection table following their 65-point defeat in round one.

North Melbourne have resisted the temptation to promote back-up ruckman Daniel Currie for his debut as No.1 club ruckman Todd Goldstein nurses a bruised shoulder from last week’s defeat against Essendon.

The Kangaroos have made one change, dropping defender Scott McMahon for Levi Greenwood. Currie has been listed as an emergency.

Geelong on Friday named an unchanged side for Sunday’s Gabba clash with Brisbane. Triple-premiership player and 2013 All-Australian Andrew Mackie will make his 200th appearance for the Cats.

The Lions have replaced Tom Rockliff (suspended) and Ryan Harwood (shoulder) with Jordan Lisle and Rohan Bewick.

Melbourne are unchanged for Sunday’s MCG game against West Coast.

Ruck/forward Max Gawn, who had been a possible inclusion for the Demons, has been left out due to hamstring soreness.

“Max Gawn had some good form at Casey over the last few weeks,” Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told the club’s website.

“But following training he pulled up a bit sore in his hamstring and we won’t be risking him for this week’s game.”

The in-form Eagles have added Brad Sheppard for Dominic Sheed.
