Both teams go into this match coming off wins in Round 1 with the Dees getting over the line in a thriller over North by two points and the Western Bulldogs dominating by beating the Saints by 25 points in their Moorabbin homecoming.
The Dees and particularly Daisy Pearce were sensational last weekend.
Pearce who made her return after giving birth to twin boys finished with 12 disposals and played a vital role in the game.
North had led for most of the day until Eden Zanker put the Demons in front in the last quarter.
The Western Bulldogs couldn’t have been more impressive in their hitout against the Saints.
Despite losing the likes of Katie Brennan and Monique Conti to Richmond over the off-season the Bulldogs looked like a well-oiled unit as they easily accounted for the Saints in their debut match.
When St.Kilda tried to get back in the match during the third quarter the Doggies defense stood out along with their experience in the league.
Bulldogs premiership player Bonnie Toogood also stared with two goals as was former no.1 draft pick Izzy Huntington who might be under an injury cloud but reports suggest she could be back in the side this Friday depending on a concussion test.
This Friday night’s game is going to be a tight matchup and you’d also have to factor in things like the open wind of the Whitten Oval, which could play a vital role in scoring.
Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs have fought out some thrilling matches in the three previous seasons of the AFLW with the past two contests being decided by two points in 2018 in a virtual elimination final and one point last year when the two sides met at Marvel Stadium.
The Demons go into this match favorite to win but it’s worth getting on the Dogs to beat the line (+4.5) on their home deck, especially as we should expect another close encounter between these two sides.
