A BRIEF LOOK AT WEST COAST’S HIGHS AND LOWS OF 2018

LOWS

*March – Written off as finals hopes after copping a 62-point pre-season loss to Fremantle.

*July – Goalsneak Liam Ryan crashes his car into a tree during an early-morning incident. He is found by police at a nearby park. He cops a two-match ban from West Coast, and is later charged with drink driving.

*July – Players and coaches are left heartbroken when ruckman Nic Naitanui suffers another ACL tear – this time to his right knee.

*July – Club integrity officer Peter Staples pushes and shoves two cameramen filming Nic Naitanui’s return to Perth Airport. The club is heavily criticised after taking almost a week before reluctantly apologising over the incident.

*August – It emerges that West Coast ruckman Tony Olango is facing assault charges over an alleged incident that occurred just a day before he was drafted by West Coast.

*August – Midfielder Andrew Gaff is suspended for eight weeks over his punch that broke the jaw of Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw.

*September – Defender Brad Sheppard is ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his hamstring in the qualifying final win over Collingwood.

HIGHS

*April-June – West Coast defy the critics to go on a 10-match winning run.

*August – The Eagles beat Brisbane in the final round to secure second spot and two home finals

*September – West Coast beat Collingwood and Melbourne in the finals to secure a spot in the grand final

*September – The Eagles come from 29 points down to beat Collingwood by five points in an epic grand final. More than 40,000 fans welcome West Coast back to Perth.
