West Coast in 48-point win over Port

Forward Jack Darling and ruckman Nic Naitanui kicked three goals each as West Coast led all day to post a 48-point win over Port Adelaide in the AFL match at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Naitanui went to full forward in the second half after dominating the ruck early in the game while Matt Priddis and Josh Hill were also good for the Eagles in the 14.14 (98) to 6.14 (50) victory.

Jay Schulz was the best of Port’s forwards but booted 2.5, missing some relatively easy opportunities.

Brad Ebert was also good, playing his first game against his old side since moving to the Power this season.

Both teams lost a player each through head knocks with West Coast’s Adam Selwood and Port’s Paul Stewart subbed out early after going down within a minute of each other.

In the first quarter West Coast dominated the play with goals to Darling, Scott Selwood and Shannon Hurn and kept the Power without a major for a 17-point lead at the break.

The Eagles piled on five goals in the second term, to set up a match-winning lead and with Port taking until the 14-minute mark to post their first, the visitors led by 43 points at the main break.

In the third term Port showed more resolve and actually trimmed the lead to 30 points, kicking three goals to West Coast’s one.

But they couldn’t maintain the pressure in the final quarter, the Eagles kicking five goals to Port’s two to pull away.

The win maintains the Eagles’ spot in the top eight and keeps them in contact with the top four with two games remaining.
